San Clemente is the southernmost coastal city in Orange County, bordering San Diego County at the Santa Fe Depot and the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. The city is known for its Spanish colonial architecture, the historic San Clemente Pier, excellent surfing beaches, and the former Western White House at Casa Pacifica. San Clemente is predominantly residential with hillside and coastal-bluff neighborhoods, the Downtown Avenida Del Mar district, and newer master-planned communities inland. Response times are among our longest because of the city's southern location.
San Clemente has a predominantly white, affluent demographic with a strong military presence from Camp Pendleton. The nearby Marine Corps base means we occasionally handle active-duty service member cases through coordination with military casualty-affairs offices. Response is about 60 minutes from our office via the 5.
Our team coordinates directly with the hospitals and medical centers serving San Clemente. Established relationships with case management, social work, and decedent affairs teams mean faster release when the time comes.

The process depends on where the passing takes place. Here's what to do in each situation.
The hospital's care team will pronounce death and notify their decedent affairs team. From there, you'll need to designate a cremation provider — that's when you call us.
When death occurs at home and hospice is not involved, an authorized responder needs to pronounce death before we can bring your loved one into care. This is required by California law and is not something a funeral home or cremation provider can bypass.
For a full guide, see our article: What to Do When Someone Dies at Home (Without Hospice).
When hospice is involved, the process is significantly simpler:
Some deaths — particularly sudden or unexplained ones — are reviewed by the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner at 1071 W Santa Ana Blvd. in Santa Ana. This doesn't mean anything is wrong; it's simply required in certain circumstances.
