Real questions from families we've served, answered honestly. If you don't find what you're looking for here, call us — a real person will pick up, any hour.
Direct cremation is a simple, dignified cremation that takes place without a formal funeral service or viewing beforehand. Your loved one is taken into our care, all required paperwork is handled, the cremation is carried out privately, and the ashes are returned to you.
That's the whole of it. No rented chapel. No casket. No formal ceremony required — though you can absolutely plan a memorial service afterward, on your own schedule.
Yes. Your loved one is treated with the same care and respect at every step regardless of the type of service. Each cremation is carried out privately, one at a time, by trained professionals following strict California state regulations.
Many families find that a private cremation, without the formality of a traditional funeral, feels more in keeping with how their loved one actually lived.
A traditional funeral typically includes embalming, a casket, a viewing or visitation, and a formal ceremony — all of which add significant cost and require arrangements to be made under pressure, while you're grieving.
Direct cremation skips all of those components. It's the essential care — transportation, paperwork, cremation, return of ashes — without the ceremony. If you want a memorial, you can plan one later, when you're ready and on your own terms.
No. Everything is handled online and by phone. You'll sign one form electronically, receive updates by text or call, and never need to come in. Arrangements are completed entirely remotely — most families find it much easier than they expected.
Our Orange address is an administrative office. We're frequently out on pickups and deliveries, so online arrangements are the fastest way to get everything in motion.
Call us. You don't need to have answers before you call — that's what we're here for. We'll walk you through the immediate steps: who to notify, whether to call 911 or the physician's office, and what to expect in the next few hours.
If your loved one passes at a hospital, hospice, or care facility, notify the nursing staff first. They'll contact the physician and begin documenting the time of death. Then call us.
Absolutely. Direct cremation separates the cremation from the memorial — you're free to plan a service days, weeks, or even months later. Many families find this is actually more meaningful, because the service can be planned thoughtfully rather than rushed in the days after a loss.
There's no right way. Some families scatter the ashes together at a meaningful place. Others hold a celebration of life at home. Some have no formal service at all. Every approach is valid.
Here's the full timeline broken down:
Paperwork phase: 7–10 business days — California requires the death certificate to be signed by the physician and filed with the county before cremation can be scheduled. We handle all of this. Timing depends on the physician's response and the county's processing pace.
Cremation: 1–3 days after the permit is issued.
Return of ashes: within 48 hours of the cremation date, by local hand-delivery in Orange County or USPS Priority Mail elsewhere.
Just one form: the cremation authorization. We'll email it to you — it can be signed electronically or printed, signed, and scanned back. That's the full extent of paperwork on your end.
We handle everything else: the death certificate, the cremation permit, county filings, and any required physician coordination.
We reach out to the physician on your family's behalf. You give us the doctor's name on the first call, and we take it from there — contacting their office, coordinating the required paperwork, and following up until the death certificate is signed.
On rare occasions a physician is slow to respond. We've handled this many times and know how to follow up effectively, without pulling your family into the back-and-forth.
As soon as you call us and we have what we need to begin, we arrange transportation. For hospital and facility transfers, timing is sometimes dictated by the facility's own release procedures — we coordinate directly with them on your behalf.
Your loved one stays in our care, with us, from the time of pickup through the return of the ashes.
Yes. You'll hear from us at every major stage: when your loved one enters our care, when paperwork is moving forward, when the cremation is scheduled, and when the ashes are ready to return. You shouldn't have to call us for news.
You'll have one counselor — the same person from your first call through the final delivery — reachable directly by phone or text.
Yes. Each cremation is carried out privately, one at a time. Your loved one is the only person in the cremation chamber during their cremation — no commingling with other individuals.
Identification is confirmed at multiple points from intake through to the return of the ashes, following strict state regulations.
$1,195 — complete, with no add-ons. That price includes everything: transportation, death certificate filing, all required permits and authorizations, the cremation, a temporary urn, and return of the ashes.
There are no hidden fees, no "starting at" prices, and no additional charges that appear later.
Full payment of $1,195 is due prior to the cremation being scheduled. We don't ask for payment on your first call — you'll have time to get through the immediate moment before payment comes up.
Once you're ready to proceed and the paperwork is in order, we'll collect payment before the cremation is scheduled.
We accept all major credit cards. Payment is collected securely by phone or through a link we send you — no need to visit our office.
At this time we don't offer payment plans. Full payment of $1,195 is required prior to the cremation being scheduled.
If cost is a concern, we'd encourage you to call us. We're happy to talk through your situation and, if we're not the right fit, point you toward resources that may help.
No. The $1,195 price is complete. It includes all county fees, state fees, and taxes. There's nothing in fine print, no add-ons, and no charges that appear after the fact.
The one thing not included: additional certified copies of the death certificate beyond the first. If you need extra copies for estates, insurance, or other legal purposes, certified copies are available directly through the county for a nominal fee per copy.
We accept credit cards, so you can charge the service to a card and then submit the expense for reimbursement through your loved one's life insurance policy after the fact. Direct assignment of insurance proceeds isn't something we currently offer.
If you have questions about using insurance for funeral expenses, the insurer's claims department can walk you through the process.
Within 48 hours of the cremation date, we return the ashes one of two ways — both included in the $1,195 price:
Local hand-delivery within Orange County. A member of our team delivers them personally to your home at a time that works for you.
USPS Priority Mail for anywhere else. Shipped securely with tracking. USPS is the only carrier legally permitted to transport cremated remains — FedEx and UPS don't accept them.
A temporary plastic urn is included with the service. It's simple, secure, and designed to hold the ashes respectfully. Many families choose to keep the ashes in this urn permanently. Others transfer them later to an urn of their own choosing.
If you'd like a different urn, you're welcome to provide one of your own before or after the cremation. We'll transfer the ashes for you at no additional charge.
The ashes are yours to decide. Common choices include:
Keep them at home in an urn or keepsake container.
Scatter them at a meaningful location — on private land with permission, or in the ocean 3+ nautical miles offshore under the Clean Water Act.
Bury them in a cemetery, in a memorial garden, or on private property where permitted.
Divide them among family members using smaller keepsake urns.
There's no legal deadline. You can take as much time as you need.
Yes. The ashes can be divided and placed in separate keepsake urns after you receive them. Many families do this when relatives are spread across different cities or states.
Keepsake urns — smaller containers designed for a portion of the ashes — are widely available online and at local retailers.
Additional certified copies can be ordered directly through the Orange County Health Care Agency or the California Department of Public Health. There's a nominal fee per copy.
We'd suggest ordering several copies upfront — they're commonly needed for estate settlement, insurance claims, financial accounts, and property transfers. Your counselor can advise on how many to request based on your situation.
California law establishes an order of priority for the person who can authorize cremation:
1. Spouse or registered domestic partner
2. Adult children (if more than one, a majority must agree)
3. Parents
4. Adult siblings
5. Other adult relatives
We'll walk you through who needs to sign based on your specific situation. If there are family disagreements or complications, call us and we'll talk through it.
In most cases, no — an electronic or wet signature is sufficient. California allows cremation authorization without notarization in the standard process. We'll let you know if your specific situation requires anything different.
Not a problem. The authorization form is sent and signed electronically, so distance doesn't affect the process. We handle out-of-state families regularly.
The ashes can also be shipped to any address in the country via USPS Priority Mail, included in the $1,195 price.
This is an uncommon but real situation. California law has provisions for cases where no next of kin is available. Call us and describe your situation — we'll explain the options and next steps based on the specific circumstances.
A prepaid cremation plan through a licensed funeral establishment in California is a legally recognized arrangement. It documents your wishes and locks in the current price. For specific legal questions about enforceability in your circumstances, we'd recommend consulting an estate attorney — we're not lawyers and can't give legal advice.
Yes. Preplanning your cremation locks in the current price of $1,195 and removes the burden from your family at the time of your passing. Everything is documented, your wishes are on record, and your family simply calls us when the time comes.
Many people find preplanning to be one of the most thoughtful things they can do for the people they love.
Yes — prepaying for cremation locks in the current price of $1,195 regardless of what prices may be in the future. Cremation costs typically increase over time, so preplanning can represent meaningful savings for your family down the road.
Plans can be updated. Call us and we'll talk through whatever has changed. If you've prepaid and need to cancel, we'll explain the options based on when and how the plan was set up.
We'll provide documentation of your arrangement that you can share with family members or include with your estate planning documents. We'd suggest telling at least one trusted person — a spouse, adult child, or close friend — where to find those documents and who to call.
The most common reason prearranged plans go unused is simply that family members didn't know they existed.
